Commissioned in 1816, Ka Hae Hawai'i or the Flag of Hawai'i is the official standard symbolizing Hawai'i the Kingdom, provisional government, republic, territory and a U.S. state. The Hawai'i Flag is the only state flag in the nation to have been flown under so many various forms of government. Representing the 8 major islands there are 8 alternating red, white, and blue stripes which were also designed in honor of the United States. The upper left features the Union Jack in honor of the United Kingdom.
