Spam Musubi
The Hormel Company first produced Spam in the mid 1920s using leftover pork shoulder from their canned ham product. Originally called "Spiced Ham" Spam got it's name by combining the letters of "Spiced Ham" soon after it was created. Spam was introduced to Hawaii during World War II. Spam Musubi was introduced a short time after.

The name musubi comes from the Japanese traditional snack called omusubi (or onigiri) also known as rice ball.
