Hawaii Superferry will provide first class accomodations for you and your personal vehicle to travel between The Hawaiian Islands.

A new era & concept of Inter-island travel will arrived in Hawaii late summer of 2007. The Hawaii Superferry will provide daily service from Honolulu, Oahu to Kahului, Maui and Lihue, Kauai. Service to Kawaihae on the Big Island begins in the year 2009.

The first of two catamaran-style vessels was appropriately named "Alakai," which in 'Olelo Hawaii (Hawaiian Language) translates as "ocean path," in honor of Hawaii's rich history of navigation and ocean travel. The double-hulled design was inspired by Polynesian double-hulled canoes - which will more smoothly navigate Hawaii's ocean waters. The second vessel will be commissioned in 2009 when service expands to the Big Island of Hawaii.

“With the imminent arrival of the Alakai, the day we have all been eagerly anticipating will soon be here,” said Hawaii Superferry President & CEO John Garibaldi. “Hawaii Superferry’s inauguration of inter-island service will mark the beginning of a new and exciting era for Hawai‘i.”

The Alakai's total capacity can board 866 passengers, approximately 280 personal vehicles, and 28 forty-foot commercial trucks. The maximum deadweight payload is 882 tons.

The ship has four decks. The Bridge Deck is where the state-of-the-art wheelhouse and controls are located. The Passenger Deck is where passengers can lounge in elegant, but comfortable seats or gather around tables to talk story. The Passenger Deck also features a food service area with cafe seating, play area & arcade for the keiki, a gift shop, and an entertainment area with movies and television. Towards the stern (back of ship) the open aft deck offers beautiful views and another bar-food service area. The Mezzanine Deck is where most passenger vehicles will be parked. The Main Vehicle Deck is where commercial trucks and other vehicles will park.
