Jonathan Hoomanawanui was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii on the first of June, 1964. His passion for music, still hidden beneath the surface. Although he started playing the ukulele at the age of 8, it was never at the top of his list of priorities, but his passion for music was always evident.
He graduated from Roosevelt High School, graduating class of 1982. After graduating from Roosevelt, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1984. Tours of duty include time spent in Korea, Fort Carson, Colorado (where he formed the band, Iland Motive), Fort Leonardwood, Missouri, overseas in Germany (where he formed a dance troop, Polynesian O Ke Kai), Beliz, Honduras, Haiti and then returned to Hawaii and finished out his military enlistment out of Schofield Barracks in 1997.
He is now operating his entertainment productions here on the 9th Island of Las Vegas. The work on this present project began in April of 1999, and was not completed until March 23, 2000. All compositions, and musical arrangements are completely original. He began composing and arranging songs long before any talks of recording a CD. This is just one example of how his passion for music continued to grow stronger.
You need only look at his parents to see where he gets his love for music and his talent. His father, Henry Hoomanawanui, played at various hotels with uncle Mike. And his mother, Honey Girl, played with the group Keanuenue Serenaders (which included Melvin, Norman, Ulu, Aulani, Lani, Hoomanawanui, Joe Ponimoi, and his uncle Dickie Kamai. Uncle Dickie Kamai was a member of the first HoAikane Band on the Big Island. A lot of hard work went into the production of this CD. Much mahalo goes out to everyone who contributed to the long days and long nights which was needed to finish this, his debut CD.
To executive producer Tom Moffat, and producers Alwyn Erub, and Randy Sugata, without them this project would just be a dream. To everyone else not mentioned, E kalamai iau, Jonathan thanks you from the bottom of his heart for everything done. Jonathan praises his wife and son, mahalo for supporting his music career. "I love you dearly!" And last, and certainly not least, he thanks our Lord Jesus Christ for providing him with the spiritual guidance, and faith to complete the Debut Cd.
