Las Vegas Hawaiian Civic Club and the City of Henderson presents the 19th Annual Prince Jonah Kuhio Ho'olaule'a Pacific Islands Festival. A video collage portraying the culture, heritage and lifestyle of the Pacific Polynesian community in Las Vegas Nevada. Video features music of Faith Ako and Mikioi.
Over 40,000 were in attendance to witness two fun in-the-sun filled days of Hawaiian and Pacific Island culture, heritage, and lifestyle... all on Da 9th Island of Las Vegas.
This years ho'olaule'a featured two stages of nonstop entertainment. A list of performers include music artist Ho'omanawanui, Kainani Kahaunaele, Faith Ako, Mikioi, Crooners Inc., 9th Island Serenaders, Backyahd Braddahs, Island Motive Band, Kapaka and Horizon Ridge Band. Hula halau, Tahitian Troupes and Polynesian dancers also took stage to display their beautiful talents. Kailiha'o Hula, Tevakanui, Heart of Polynesia, Aloha Polynesia of Las Vegas, Halau Hula Na Lai O Ka Holoku, Nani Ola Hawaiian Dance Company, Halau Hula O heleloa, Halau Na Pua Lehua I Ka Ua Noe, and Polynesian Rythyms. Cultural performers also shared with Las Vegas, such as the Taiko Drummers and Lohan School of Shaolin.
Another great feature of the "island kine" festival was the cultural demonstrations and displays. Lei making, weaving, poi, kalo pounding, weapons, tools, literature, etc.
Festival go-ers were treated to a midway of merchant and food vendors. Ho'olaule'a shoppers found arts and crafts, t-shirts, shorts, hats, apparel accessories, kitchenware, home decor, bath and body, live plants and everything else island related.
Pau (finish) shop... then it's time to kaukau (eat)! "Kahuna" appetites were satisfied with island style grinds. The smell of Local plate lunches, Hawaiian, Samoan, and Asian delicacies filled the air. Hulihuli chiken, BBQ & kalbi ribs, kalau, laulau, beef stew, ahi poke, spam musubi and island desserts and drinks were available. We could go on and on with all the different foods being served.
The intent of the above video collage is to portrait OUR lifestyle, culture and heritage here within the Las Vegas Valley, to include Henderson, North Las Vegas and surrounding communities. Hawaiian, Hawaii-Local Samoan, Chamorro, Tahitian, Maori, Asian, Pacific Islander, and islanders-at-heart... we all live as one. We share our ways with all. We are the people!
MAHALO TO THE LAS VEGAS HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUB FOR PROVIDING THIS GREAT EVENT!
