A Tourists Guide To Auckland New Zealand

E-mail
Have you ever traveled to New Zealand? If not, you are in for a treat! Auckland, New Zealand is a beautiful place to visit and a city that is large, exciting and a truly fun place to be.

Your first impression of Auckland may be one that involves the words green and clean. As you approach Auckland by air you will see a gorgeous seascape and forests of green. Pay attention as you drive from the airport and you will see real beauty. There are 46 volcanic hills covered with closely cropped grass, (this service is provided free-of-charge by the sheep who wander the area.)

You may be surprised at the city of Auckland because it has over 1 million inhabitants and has been developing in size and in sophistication over the last several years. You will find that many of the shops are now open 7 days a week and the bars and nightclubs remain open into the late hours of the night.

Part of the reason for the love of the water is the Waitemata Harbour. It is a gorgeous place and the name literally means, sea of sparkling waters which it is. The area underwent major redeveloping in 2000 after it took part in the Americas Cup. This regatta was a popular event and helped spur the redevelopment. The area is now called the Viaduct and it is a place where there are many popular restaurants, cafes and bars.

One of the greatest assets of Auckland is the Waitemata Harbour. This name means, sea of sparkling waters and the name fits this lovely harbor. In 2000 the city held its defense of the Americas Cup and the regatta helped a major redevelopment of the area begin. Viaduct is the name of the area now and some of the citys most popular cafes, restaurants and bars are located here.

Getting around in Auckland can be a little difficult because of the way the neighborhoods sprawl about. The city spreads out on both shores of Stanley Bay and Waitemata Harbour. The easiest way to maneuver the city is by car. Just remember you will be driving on the left side of the road. The first day or two you are in Auckland you may want to purchase a Link Pass or an Explorer Bus Pass. This will help you get acquainted with the city.

Ready for the wilds of Auckland? Visit Mt. Eden, sip wine at a winery and then journey on to Muriwai Beach. You can spend half a day taking a tour or you also have the choice of two day-long jaunts. There are even tours that are designed for those who want a comprehensive wine-tasting experience.

The Auckland Museum is certainly worth a visit and dont leave the area without a trip to see Parnell Village. This is a place where you can shop to your hearts content at the upscale boutiques and shops. There are Victorian villas in the area, also. You will want to head up to the top of the Sky Tower for the superb view and the National Maritime Museum is lots of fun, too.

Other sights that you may want to put on your itinerary include the stunning Auckland Museum and Parnell Village. Parnell Village is famous for its boutiques and Victorian villas. The National Maritime Museum is worthy of a visit and you may want to take a trip up the Sky Tower. Here you can view the isthmus and surrounding harbors.
