Islands of the Pacific Cultural Festival
Islands of the Pacific Cultural Fest
Vizzun Entertainment & The Cannery Casino & Hotel presented The inaugural Islands of the Pacific Cultural Festival & Pure Aloha Concert Series on October 10 - 12, 2008. Other major sponsors of the three day event consisted of the Cox Cable, Kona Brewing Company, AlohaValley.com, and Pipeline2Paradise.com.
Pure Aloha Concet
Festivities kicked off Friday night with an awesome lineup of island music entertainers, B.E.T., Pati, Natural Vibes and International renown Reggae band Bonafide. Pipeline2Paradise.com's "Pu'ukani" and The Big Aloha Crew's "Begg Sexyy" were the emcee's for the night.
Cultural Fest
A change in weather and a 20 degree drop in temperature on Saturday's daytime festival couldn't keep the island people away. Temperatures only reached the mid 60s as the Las Vegas islanders showed their true warrior spirit. Event go-ers were treated to a full day of entertainment to include island music, Hawaiian hula, Tahitian, Cooke Islands, Samoan, Tongan, and Fijian dances. Entertainment also included cultural demonstrations from Hawaii, Samoa, Tahiti, Tonga, Cooke Islands, Aotearoa, and Guam. Day time festivities were hosted by "Braddah Guy".
The vendor midway provided a huge variety of merchandise from island style apparel & accessories, arts & crafts home decor, jewelry, gifts, and health & beauty. Of course, no festival would be successful if it didn't have a variety of island style food vendors. Local style plate lunches, Hawaiian, Samoan, Chamorro, Jamaican Jerk and Asian food booths were on location. Local favorites such as musubi's Mochi, malasadas, and shaved ice kept the event go-ers happy.
Hawaiian Media Appreciation
Saturday evenings concert, Las Vegas Hawaiian Media Appreciation Night featured Dedicated Minds out of Guam, and Las Vegas' HaleAmanO and Hawaiian Soul... via Hawaii. Big Pati delighted the crowd by making a special appearance. Great "feel good" music along with tons of prize giveaways made the evening special. Pipeline2Paradise.com's "Pu'ukani" and AlohaValley.com's "Da Webmastah" hosted the Media Night concert. The Las Vegas Hawaiian media included AlohaValley, com, Pipeline2Paradise.com, Hawaiian Soul Productions, and The Little Grass Shack Radio Show.
Cultural Fest
Sunday's daytime festivities included more great island musicians, dances, cultural demonstrations, food and shopping with warmer temperatures and less wind; appreciated by all islanders. The first annual Islands of the Pacific Cultural Fest ended with a bang... literally. Drummers from local Tahitian and Polynesian dance groups came together for a huge "blow out" drumming session. Those who gathered were treated to a heart pounding demonstration and the true island spirit.
